Senior Analyst, ALLIANZ CLIMATE SOLUTIONS
“Africa is probably one of the most promising markets for the next decades. A big obstacle for local businesses is reliable and affordable energy access. With the realization of renewable energy projects we will not only enable and insure those projects but support Africa’s economic growth so that the value proposition of renewables is more sustainable than ever.”
Melanie brings more than 15 years of experience in the banking and insurance sector. Within the risk advisory department at Allianz Climate Solutions she is responsible for the evaluation of photovoltaic and wind projects and technologies and the development of bankable solutions for project developers as well as investors.
She is working closely with the Project Development Programme (PDP), implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) under the German Energy Solutions Initiative of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) for more than one year now. They identified the need for discussion and exchange between investors, project developers and financial institutions as well as policy makers as crucial in order to successfully develop and implement responsive solutions to the upcoming challenges in emerging markets. Therefore they initiated workshops to discuss and develop possible financing models for CAPEX-free operator models for photovoltaic projects. Melanie released a discussion paper that addresses possible ways of rethinking the transaction process and developing tools for renewable energy projects which could be a step forward to respond to the challenges of emerging markets.
