Co-Founder , AZIMUTH SOLAR
Nthabieng Mosia is the CFO and co-founder of Azimuth – known locally in Sierra Leone as Easy Solar,– an innovative, leading distributed energy service company (DESCO) that finances solar products to off-grid households and small businesses across the country. Azimuth makes clean energy affordable for low and middle income consumers by offering solar powered devices on a “rent to own” financing structure, enabled by Pay-As-You-Go technology and mobile money. As a last mile distributor, Azimuth reaches customers underserved by the grid through an extensive network of community-based agents, making clean energy both affordable and accessible.
Nthabi co-founded the startup in 2015, while pursuing her Masters in Energy Finance and Policy at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs, where in addition to launching the business, she learnt avidly about innovations in clean energy finance and scalable business models to serve off-grid markets. Nthabi has worked at ICF International, examining the impact of integrating distributed energy technologies on system reliability and the need for new transmission builds. In addition, through her background in management consulting, she has worked with a major South African utility on the impacts of integrating renewable energy resources into its long-term energy supply mix.
A South African and Ghanaian dual-citizen, Nthabi is a Pan-African at heart, passionate about building homegrown solutions to the continent’s most pressing development challenges. Her love of the continent has brought her to work and live in numerous countries across Southern, East and West Africa, including Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Malawi and most recently Sierra Leone. Nthabiseng also holds a B.Sc. in Finance and Economics from the University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa.
